The dVoiceBox Studio specialises in recording voice-overs, speech based web content
and other spoken word projects.
Here’s the dVoiceBox guide to podcasting:
About podcasting
Podcasting is a way of distributing audio or video files by computer over
the internet. It uses syndication feeds as a means of getting the files
to consumers' computers where they can be played back or downloaded onto
a hand held device like a portable MP3 player.
What is a podcast?
A podcast is generally an audio file - but podcasts can also include multi-media
content including pdf files or video. The name is associated with the
Mac iPod - but you can playback podcasts on a range of devices that will play mp3 files or other media content files.
If you are new to podcasting and are not quite sure what
it all means just think of the audio file as a short radio programme in
style and content. The process may seem daunting or a bit confusing at
the moment but dVoiceBox can help at every step of the production
Why Podcast?
A podcast adds content to your online presence and could help to increase
traffic to your site.
Use it to create brand awareness or as part of a marketing or promotional
strategy for new products or services.
A podcast can condense information from your website and allow your audience
to carry it in a portable and convenient form.
You could use a podcast style production for internal communication or
a training programme within your businesss or organisation.
Convenience and portabillity are the keys with podcasts: the audience
can play the audio at a time and place that suits them.
Podcasting with dVoiceBox
Preparation - identify the intended audience and the
purpose and objective for the podcast. Plan the content and method of
delivery of the podcast.
dVoiceBox can help with production questions and with scripting.
Content
The effectiveness of a podcast will depend on how the material is put
across to the listener. Our producer will work with you to identify whether
you need music, sound effects, location recording etc.
Music - There can be licensing issues and extra or on-going
costs with the use of music - however we can provide “royalty free”
music where you only need to make a single payment for its use. Music
is an element that can give the final product that professional gloss
without huge expenditure.
Voices - Sometimes it may be best to use someone from
your organisation who has a clear understanding of the content and who
can convey the material effectively. However generally we recommend the
use of professional voice artists to help the podcast communicate more
effectively with your intended audience. We can help you choose from a
range of voice artists on our database.
Recording
We can record in our studio or at your premises. The dVoiceBox sound engineer
will record your content efficiently and to a high professional technical
standard. An acoustic suitability assessment may have to be made if using
location recordings.
Production
Once all the elements are recorded our producer will edit and refine the
recordings - adding sound effects, backing tracks and music and any other
elements that you have specified. This is the part of the process where
we add the professional polish to the performance.
Distribution
Podcasts are potentially a form of global communication - once you’ve
recorded the content, encoded the file and uploaded it then it can be
accessed by anyone anywhere. dVoiceBox can help with encoding, placement
on the server and submitting the podcast to the appropriate directories.
Alternatively you may be using the podcast in a more limited
way - perhaps within a company or to selected colleagues or clients or
as part of a staff training programme - in such cases you may want the
file on a cd so that your own internal IT staff can arrange distribution.
